Ask me any uni questions and I'll try my best to answer

Hi,
So I am currently a 1st year at Uni of York doing Music. I understand that navigating Music and university choices can be difficult so I am open to answering any questions that I can. So fire away

Oo, that's a tough question. Do you mean for a smilar course or another reason? For example, I'd love to try living in the north of Scotland so might pick the University of the Highlands and Islands but I'd pick very differently if I was thinking about the same course!

Tbh York was my first choice. I really liked the look of it and the music course here was the one that I was the most interested in. But I think maybe maybe Uni of Birmingham

If you don't mind me asking, what made you change your mind?

I wouldn't actually change being at York for anything, I love it here. I was just thinking of where I might have gone if York wasn't an option and I remember visiting a total of 10 unis (including York) so they all kind of blur into one but Birmingham is the one that seemed to remember the most other than York.

That's very nice to know, I'm glad you're happy with your choice! What kind of music do you specialise in and how much of that has York offered you? Or is it a more of a various genres that you like to explore?

Hi. So personally it is various different things that I am interested in within music. For example, I'm interested in Music Psychology and York offers Music Psychology as an option module for undergrad and for postgrad.

1st year is obviously a way to test the waters and try figure out how to survive by yourself and so I've had a taste at different things like Sound recording, conducting, music analysis, performance etc. York has offered all that for me this year and next year I can do two option modules and one compulsory per semester.

Regarding genres, yes York has many to explore. There's the symphony orchestra, there's lots of jazz bands, there's concert orchestra which does film music and classical. There's lots of ways to get involved and I've been able to do lots of different genres of music within one year. I play Violin so they prefer me playing Classical, Romantic and Baroque pieces rather than anything contemporary but that doesn't mean I'm not allowed to anything else.
