UWE bristol or Salford for film?Or just not go uni at all

Heya, so I'm reaaly stuck between firming UWE Bristol and Salford to study filmmaking, i've been to both unis and its just maken me even more undecised ,Bristol seems like an amazing place to live , bloody expensive but near London which is where im from. But the course prospect, networking oppotunities and alumni at UWE just doesnt seem that good , while Salford seems to have really good equipment and loads of past students working in the industry and overall a decent uni, but its just so far away(manchester) which makes me not as interested in joining.TBH lately ive got an offer from all my chocies except LIPA, and even tho every course seems alright its like ive been feeling that none of those unis are the right place for me, thats makingme start wondering if uni is really the path i wanna take to get into the industry or even if doing film prodcution is the right decison since i can study whatever and still get a PA job when i graduate.Anyways any quick responses would be amazing since most accomodation for both unis.

Hey @PerroLlorando07 ,

Great to hear you've been to visit - despite you still being uncertain on which to choose, its a good way to see the most of each course! I understand the sticking point you're having, and it is a difficult decision to make! I would consider where you'd feel happiest as a large factor - if you think moving further away from home would affect you heavily and cause your student experience to suffer, then its worth that having a weighting in your decision. As you've seen from visiting and mention in your post, our facilities for the programme are really good and varied, and the course is designed well to aid that transition into industry. However, the best university for you is the one you're going to enjoy being at the most, and be happiest at. It might be worth sitting down and making a really honest pros and cons list for each university you're considering if you've not done already, as sometimes having all the different factors you're considering laid out in front of you can help with considering all your options.

If you're uncertain about starting university this year and the decision feels too soon to make, you can always defer for a year for the offer you feel you might want to go to the most, and then see how you feel in a year. You'll need to have made that university your firm choice all of your results for this, but it is an option to give you more thinking time and still hold something for the following year. In terms of accommodation, I know our Peel Park Quarter accommodation is fully booked now, but they are regularly releasing rooms as they become free, so there's still options for on campus accommodation (and other options around our campus too!).

I appreciate that I've not really given you a defined 'this option is the best one for you' answer, but that's because there are so many personal thoughts, feelings and factors that go into this that are something we as university reps won't fully know. If you have any queries about decision making, the course, the university etc (anything!) please do let me know - always happy to help as an ex student, current staff member of Salford.

All the best!
Becky

Hi @PerroLlordano07,

It's totally normal to be feeling this way, figuring out which university to go to is a huge decision! Much like Becky has mentioned in her reply, it's best to think about where you may be happiest and feel most settled, you want to really enjoy your experience. For you it sounds like distance is a big contributing factor in your decision which is really common. Bristol is a lovely place to live as it has something for everyone and I'm so glad you could see that from your visit! In terms of the course at UWE Bristol, our graduates have gone on to work in media companies such as the BBC, ITV, Aardman Animations and Heart Radio to interactive multimedia companies and arts-based organisations which are some great opportunities. You want to pick the course you enjoy the most so checking out the modules and career prospects of each university is a great way to compare and decide what's most important to you.

Take your time, you may even decide you'd like to come to university another year, there's no pressure 🙂 if I can help with anything at all in the future please let me know!

Thank you,

Courtney
