Do you have an idea of what you'd like to study in future? I'm currently in y13 doing maths and econ and rly enjoy them, quite a lot of unis don't really like econ and business together so if you dropped to 3 that might not be a good idea

Drop business and keep the other 3. No point having business there as a 4th.

honestly as a year 13 student don’t bother with 4 it’s just additional stress and so much more content plus unis don’t even really care so it’s not worth the extra stress lol

I started Sixth Form with four A-Levels and dropped one within the first six months. This gave me the chance to experience each course and keep the three I was most passionate about. If you feel capable, I’d recommend starting with four; it gives you the flexibility to drop the one you enjoy least. If you’re only planning to take three from the start, I’d suggest dropping Business.

I wouldn’t recommend taking 4, 3 is all unis look at. The exception is further maths which is recommended for finance related degrees so you might want to consider that. Some unis consider econ and business too similar to be counted as separate subjects so drop business because its seen as less academic i think.

Hi there,

As said above, Universities don't really pay much attention to your 4th A-level, so it is only worth taking 4 is you are really determined to. That being said, 4 A-levels might be beneficial if you are applying to Universities if they accept UCAS points in replacement of traditional grade requirements, so it might be helpful to have a quick browse on UCAS to see what type of universities offer grades OR UCAS points, or just grades for entry! However, 3 good A-levels are usually always better than 4 A-levels with lower grades because you were stretched out too thin.

Only you know whether you would be able to handle taking 4, so if you really want to do it then go for it! Another potentially easier compromise would be to do 3 A-levels and then an EPQ, which is worth an AS-level. With an EPQ, some universities will tend to drop the entry requirements by about a grade so this would help in the long run! As well, does your sixth form/college do AS levels? If you, you could take the 4 subjects and then drop one after your AS-levels in y12, so you would have 3 A-levels and then an AS-level in the 4th subject, so similar qualifications to 3 A-levels and an EPQ but in the subjects you prefer!

If you decide to only take 3, I would consider dropping either business or econ, as they are quite similar. Maybe business, as econ may be more helpful when taking a finance degree? I like that you have psych as a choice too as it is so different from the rest! I took Bio, Chem and History, and picked history as I really enjoyed it and knew I would want a break from all the sciencey stuff - I know our choices are completely different but I think psych would give you a nice break from all the numbers and equations

Hope this helps!
