Low GCSEs and Cambridge medicine

I achieved 9887666553 in my GCSEs.

- 98 in combined science
-7 in maths

So I did well in subjects relevant to my chosen course but there are some lower grades, particularly food tech which I got a 3 in.

I did have some medical circumstances in year 10 which caused me to miss 3 months of school and I was failing every subject by the end of year 10 and was not expected to achieve anywhere close to what I did in real exams (despite them still being average)

I would like to apply for medicine at Cambridge, my a levels are currently very good but I’m not too sure about UCAT as I have not started prep yet.

Can I still apply?

of course you can apply! cambridge is actually known for being a little more lenient with GCSE grades, especially if you had extenuating circumstances.
one of my good friends got into cambridge with pretty mediocre gcses + extenuating circumstances, however she is not doing Medicine [im not sure how much stricter they would be].
of course, you have to be willing to put the work in for the UCAT and especially for the interview, but you can definitely still apply. if there is an Oxbridge coordinator at your school, or someone in the careers department, even your form tutor if you dont have anyone else, i would highly recommend having a chat with them and they can give you some more information.
if you havent already, check the course on UCAS/cambridge website to see if there are any specific grade requirements.
this all being said, you would probably need all A*s predictions + very good UCAT score to 'balance' out some of your grades.
good luck !!
