I’ll be starting September at uob but nervous now

If you are starting a PA course the best thing you can do is to withdraw. Currently there are no jobs. There are a lot of people who have already done the PA course who are unemployed. Also the universities should have changed the name of the course so if you are starting a Physician Associate course please be aware that the name has changed to Physician Assistant so there are no more jobs for Physician Associates so this course cannot lead to a job as a Physician Associate. There is no guarantee that what you study on the course will get a you a job as a Physician Assistant.

The universities should have withdrawn the courses until the name of the job and scope of practice is sorted out.

Brighton now added to the list of those not taking anyone on this year for the PA course. Basically, sounds like they scrapping the course but they can't say that due to existing students still on the course.
Not being funny - but people who are starting this course this year - what are you thinking? Please do your research before you waste your money. The title has changed, The scope has changed. There are no jobs. There is no respect. You are sensible, educated graduates. Do your research.

Just to make it 100% clear since people are still not understanding:

You will pay £25K to study for an MSc in Physician associate studies.

But on qualification, you will be a Physician Assistant.

GP surgeries are shedding PAs like confetti in the last year. However, should you wish to work in a GP surgery, you will first need to work as a PA in a hospital for 2 years. You CANNOT go from Uni to GP surgery straight away (thank the Lord).

Should some GP surgery in the future still hire PAs - you will NOT be able to see undifferentiated patients or diagnose or of course prescribe. If you make a mistake, your supervising Doctor will take the flak - so you will be seeing people with coughs and colds and the GP (if he/she is sensible will have to double check in case you missed something more serious). So in effect, you are adding to their workload - not reducing it.

So after uni, your first task is getting a Physician's Assistant job in a hospital. Last year most PAs were unemployed. This year, the Leng Review has come out and reduced your scope and you are now assistants. The best way to get a role in a hospital would be at Band 3 at best.

Think carefully, and research

Umaps lost their court case yesterday. Read up on it . PAs will be renamed assistants and pay reduced likely to band 4 . Don’t do it .

There aren't any jobs. Last year there were more people studying on the PA course than there were jobs advertised for the whole year. If you do this course you will not become a Physician Associate as that job title no long exists in the NHS. The pay scales will change because assistants are not paid on band 7.

If you are doing this course because it appears to have a high salary the new job role won't be band 7.

If you are doing it to work with patients then change to another job. You can get a doctors assistant job a role that already exists without needing to go to university.

Are you seriously paying 20k for a dead end course with no jobs, limited scope and no respect???

hi, is anyone going to University of Birmingham to do PA? 25/26

I’m not doing PA exactly (assuming you mean Performing Arts?), but I am heading to Birmingham to study at ACM (Academy of Contemporary Music). It’s not Birmingham Uni, but since it looks like we’re both into the performing side of things I’d be happy to connect!

Withdraw immediately. Don’t start this course . The title has changed , the course content will change . The nhs banding will reduce , they’re looking at re-banding now .There are no jobs . Don’t pay 20k to be an assistant.

I've not seen anything about re-banding , where have you seen this?

Steve Nash said that Physician Assistants will be band 4, according to the new Leng Job descriptions. Using the nhs Job evaluation chart and the new job description templates they come out at band 4.

There’s no way that they’ll continue to pay assistants band 7 longterm . There might be some pay protection for PA who’ve been in post longer than 2 yrs

And now Welsh NHS has agreed to implement the Leng Reiew.

Anyone contemplating doing the PA course this month - PLEASE cancel and do something with a proper career path.
