Accommodation (UoB)

I’m planning to go to university of Birmingham for my post graduation. I am really confused, which village should I consider? I was thinking about Jarret Park. I do want an ensuite, but I heard that people saying the vale is the best place to live. I need everyone’s opinion.

Congratulations on planning your postgraduate journey at Birmingham. Choosing the right accommodation can really shape your experience. Jarratt Hall, part of Selly Oak Village, is a popular option for its ensuite rooms and its proximity to campus, just a 5–10 minute walk away. It’s right in the heart of student life, surrounded by shops, cafes, and public transport links. While it offers great convenience and independence, the area can be a bit lively at times, which might be a consideration if you’re looking for a quieter environment.

The Vale Village offers a more scenic and social experience, with a lakeside setting and plenty of green space. It’s a bit further from campus and supermarkets (around a 20–25 minute walk or a short bus ride) but has a community feel and ensuite options like Elgar Court. For a more peaceful and postgraduate-friendly atmosphere, Pritchatts Park Village could be another option. It’s quieter, still within reasonable walking distance to campus (10–15 minutes) and it strikes a nice balance between a calm setting and access to social opportunities. Ultimately, the best fit depends on your priorities—whether you’re seeking quiet and focus, community and scenery, or central convenience.

Hey! I'm currently at Jarratt Hall and personally love the space, ensuite, well-located, and pretty quiet. 😊
It really depends on what you're looking for: Selly Oak is super convenient and social, Vale Village is absolutely beautiful (especially in spring and summer), and Jarratt hits a nice balance.
