post interview rejections

hi, I'm an international student, and I have received 4/4 post-interview rejections and an offer from UCLan for the course of medicine. Do you think I should accept the offer or take a gap year and reapply? UCLan seems like a nice med school, but I have some apprehensions regarding it because of how new it is.

Also, I would really appreciate some advice on how to tackle interviews because I genuinely feel so lost. I have done some doc shadowing and tried to reflect on it in my interviews, but i guess they weren't impressed. do you recommend I do some volunteering too? The country I live in does not allow minors to volunteer or take up jobs, so I couldn't do much last year.
Any advice on what I can possibly do in my gap year (in case I take one) to strengthen my application is much appreciated.

Thank you so much for reading, and I wish you the best of luck

Sorry to hear your bad news.

For medicine, uni doesn't matter because the course strucure and standard is "regulated", so all med sch are similar. There is shortage of doctors everywhere and graduate employment is virtually "guaranteed".

So, IMHO there is no point to do a gap year.

Medicine is so competitive and it is super difficult for unis to select students. Rejection is not a shame, it's just too many applicants and too few places.

Let it be and focus at your exam. UCLan might not be as good to your other choices overall, its med sch is definitely not inferior to any other med sch in UK.

Good luck.

Thank you for your reply. But does UCLan guarantee places in the NHS during the FY1 and FY2 post-MBBS? When you say the standard is regulated, do you mean everyone is taught the same skills and knowledge regardless of what uni they study in?

Hi @bsbp2,

We aim to produce graduates educated to the highest UK standards and who will become effective, safe and knowledgeable doctors wherever in the world they practice medicine. There are multiple options available upon graduation from the MBBS programme. Successful completion of the course will enable you to meet core requirements as a Junior Doctor and allow you to apply for provisional registration with the General Medical Council. All UK graduates are eligible to apply to the UK Foundation Programme. Entry onto this programme requires an applicant to have the right to work in the UK and involves a highly competitive process with other UK graduates.

Once you enter year 2-6 of this programme, our clinical education partners include:

More information can be found here: Medicine & Surgery Degree, MBBS at UCLan

Best wishes, ^Zac
