Work experience rejections

Hi! I’ve applied to several work experience opportunities this school year and been rejected from every single one. They’ve been quite competitive, such as 15/250 people or 50/400 etc, so I’m not surprised, but a lot of people from my classes have managed to get them. I was just wondering if anybody else is experiencing something similar or has done in the past and could give me some advice? I’ve been applying for lab work/biomedical research work experience as it’s a degree I’m interested in doing. It’s massively knocked my confidence because I was hoping to apply to Oxford for biomedical sciences, but if I can’t even get these which are less competitive, do I even have a shot at Oxford? I thought I had the grades and the passion but I’m not so sure now that I have a chance..

Thanks for reading!

Heyyy,

Honestly, I have had my fair share of rejections this year but you have to believe in yourself and continue to search for work experiences. You could try work experiences online or try work experiences in your area. They don't have to be directly linked to biomedical sciences but if they give you the same skills you need for your degree then that' s more than fine.

Rejection is redirection. Hope you find some work experience soon!

If you apply to Oxford, you will be assessed on your academic record and potential, as you will be applying for an academic course. Not having work experience is unlikely to be a negative factor. Good luck!

It seems like the work experiences you’ve been applying for are big, well-known ones, hence the high competition. I’d recommend applying for something smaller and more local.
