Gift year rule duration?

Three years ago, my daughter began university pursuing an HND in Performing Arts. However, due to personal circumstances, she left after completing the first year, earning an HNC. Last year, she was accepted into a university course to train as an ambulance technician.

Unfortunately, her funding application was rejected due to the "Equal Level Qualification" rule.
This year, she has been accepted into a three-year master's program in psychology. Given the time gap since her previous studies, will she be eligible for full funding for the entire duration of the course?
Also does this fall into ELQ rule?

I'm really concerned at the moment, as she is incredibly excited about this opportunity and her future. Any insights would be greatly appreciated—thank you

Hi Grayson99,

Is it a masters or an undergraduate course? Usually after obtaining an HNC, the next level up from that would be a degree level rather than a masters. Is it possible she is studying a degree level with an integrated masters year?

Thanks, Clare

Hi Grayson,

How many years previous study has the student done? Whats the name of the course and university she wishes to study with and we can check this on the system?

Thanks,
Claire

She has done 1 year study 2021-2022. She gained a higher national certificate in Performing arts Dance. If she had completed full 3 years she would have gained an HND. However, it wasn't for her so she left after 1 year.
The new course is 3 years to study psychology Bachelors of Science degree at University of Leicester. Thanks

Every student is entitled to funding for the length of their course plus one additional year, minus any previous study. This means if she has only done 1 year previous study, then she should be fine for finance for the new course. Nothing is definite till she applies and we can check this.

Thanks,
Claire

If she is studying a higher qualification than what she already holds, then its not ELQ. Again nothing is definite till she applies and we can check this.

Thanks,
Claire
