Cardiff Student Term-time jobs

I'm going onto my final year of uni in Cardiff and due to rents increasing drastically this year I will very likely have to find a part-time job during term time. I wanted to hear people's experiences with this - what kinds of jobs are available for students? When do you start job hunting? how competitive is it? I'd appreciate any info at all

Why don't you try tutoring? Isn't this good to help other students in their studies and get rewarded for your efforts

Hiya!

Have you tried having a look at Jobshop? I think that it isa brilliant student service to be honest, as they usually provide lots of jobs opportunities! They also offer job vacancies that are internal to the SU or the university itself - I find these the most convenient as the hours work really well with the student timetable.

Overall though, a lot of the jobs I've seen on Jobshop are things like bar staff, research assistant, catering assistants etc. There's also odd jobs, such as marking schoolwork or being an invigilator for secondary school exams.

Hey thanks for the suggestion - I did consider tutoring for spanish as I'm a native speaker but I found 2 issues. The main one being that teaching others is harder than what most would think. Typically you're paid per hour of contact you have with the tutee without taking into consideration the hours spent outside of this to plan lessons, activities, exercises etc. Plus I don't have any past experiences with teaching so I'm not sure if I understand how to be a tutor that well.

On the other hand, I have a friend who does maths tutoring and has said that it is particularly hard to find people that need tutoring at the start of the year and they start surging the closer it gets to finals - which may be hard for me to balance with exams and dissertations. So not very reliable.

Do you know of any websites/apps that could facilitate matching tutors with tutees? This would help a lot. Thank you!

Hi Fatiha - thanks so much for your response
I am actually signed up to Jobshop and I also think it's super good for finding a job. I have tried applying to jobs through there but it tends to be quite competitive, and also most positions are one-time or single-shift based so I'm not sure how reliable/sustainable it is. However I agree is a really good tool and helps you connect a little more with the uni community.
