Cardiff or Exeter for a Law Degree (with a strong interest in Spanish)

Hi everyone,

I’m currently deciding between Exeter or Cardiff for a law degree. Ideally, I wanted to go to Bristol as they offer a ‘Law with Spanish’ degree, which is exactly aligned with what I want to go into, but unfortunately I was rejected this week.

Neither Cardiff or Exeter offer Law with Spanish, although I do have an offer from Exeter to study ‘Law with European Studies’ as well a straight law offer from Cardiff, both which I’m pleased about but just don’t know which one will give me the best experience considering my interest in Spanish and also doing a year abroad.

Is anyone able to give me any advice?

If anyone is studying/ has studied Law with an interest in Spanish (or another language) at either uni this would be particularly helpful, but all advice is very much appreciated!

Hi there!

Its awesome that you're interested in Spanish! In Cardiff, we have a program called Languages for All. This is free for students, and you just sign up at the start of the year when you enroll. You do weekly classes, and you get examined for it in writing, speaking and reading like you would do in a normal exam. It also shows up in your academic transcript! I did this for Welsh, and it was a brilliant experience.

You also get the opportunity to do a year abroad, and one partnership we have is with a university in Madrid! You can find more info about this here.

I hope that's helped

Thank you so much for your advice! I had been to Cardiff and was told they are introducing a fee for Languages for All starting in September 2025? Which is a bit of a shame, but nevertheless I'm glad there is something on offer.

I believe Exeter offers Spanish credits included in the Law with European Studies course in order to prepare for the year abroad in 3rd year. Is anyone from Exeter able to advise me on this?

Thank you again @CardiffUni Rep 2
