Feeling lonely as a degree apprentice

Hi,

I’m a marketing level 4 apprentice and as much as it is great getting the first year of my degree at the same time as working, I have no social life.

Everyone else on my apprenticeship has friends from college etc, that they see regularly and then there’s me who’s friends have all gone off to uni and we barely speak anymore.

I think I wish I had been told this when doing apprenticeships and it may not be the same for everyone but I just feel so alone. At the weekends I do nothing, on weekday evenings I do nothing, I have no one.

I talk to people on my apprenticeship there’s 10 of us in total but they all have their own lives and do stuff outside of work. So I guess my question is for degree apprentices out there, how are you making friends? I think I just want to know if anyone’s in a similar situation or was in a similar situation as I am.

Thanks.

See if you could join a sports club like football or karate or see if your local library offers any clubs/ activities.

BTW I’m not an apprentice but I’ve been helping my mum make friends (she has ADHD and suspected ASD) and found her a mums group at a cafe thanks to an advert on the window

Join clubs/societies/teams etc outside of work. Are there any particular things you are interested in?
See what clubs/societies/teams etc are in your area. You can usually find these in places like on social media, posters in shops/the local area etc.
You could also volunteer. How about volunteering at a local rainbows/brownies/guides or beavers/cubs/scouts group? You will make new friends doing that.
