hills road sixth form college

im from a very high achieving all girls private school outside of cambridge but i dont really enjoy it here as the atmosphere is very competitive and snarky
i'm thinking about moving to hrsfc after gsces and i was wondering if it's hard to settle in as there are so many students.
also wanted to know what kind of vibe it has - are the people friendly?
im planning on studying maths, fm, physics and econ. (maybe cs instead of physics; im still undecided)
also i've been in an all girls school since year 7 so i was wondering if the change would be very big or not really
thank you sm!!

im in year 13 at hills and i didnt find it difficult to settle in tbh! i came from a small secondary school but i found that the people i interacted with at the start of y12 to be nothing but lovely and you do find your people! there are loads of fun events that get you to meet new people (e.g. culture day, enrichment, social action week etc). it can feel huge as there are so many people but honestly ive only met incredible people in my 2 years here!

i dont do the subjects that you are looking at but some of my friends do similar subjects and can find it quite competitive, but subjects do offer tutoring schemes that match you with another student with a higher grade to help you if you find yourself falling behind, as well as many subjects offering extra support workshops (especially towards exam season). some of my friends have used this (some doing the tutoring and some being tutored) and say that it actually works really well and helps a lot.

i honestly think hills gets such a bad rep for being super competitive and although i do diff subjects (still some stem tho) ive never really experienced it being too competitive!

the rumours that people get kicked out for having low grades isnt true at all, they just get given more support. the pastoral support is getting better (sadly as there have been 2 people dying young in the last 2 years) and there is a lot more effort being put into wellbeing support!!

lmk if you have any more questions!!

regarding people getting kicked out - not a rumor, sorry. two of my best friends were kicked out and had to retake y12 at another sixth form (where i met them) due to their grades.

Not a rumour I'm afraid, I know of 2 kids who were kicked out for poor grades last year

Absolutely not true, though quite possibly a better message to give out than the reason someone did leave.

Actually, Hills has one of the best retention rates in the country - the average retention rate Y12 to Y13 for A levels is about 92%, at Hills it's about 98%.

if you dont like the competitive and snarky atmosphere, dont apply to hills? i went there and it is basically only populated with the snarkiest people and the top students are so competitive... so...

Even if Hills is competitive relative to state schools, it might still be less snarky than OP's current all girls private school

Oh heyyy I'm going into year 12 this year and doing the same subjects, from what I've heard from my friends who have gone there - it's competitive and stressful, but it's easy to settle in and make friends
