Predicted grades?

What predicted grades do you need for a uni compared to the requirements? Do you need to be predicted to reach the requirements?

Yes or very near them. It does depend on the uni and the course. If it's popular then it's more important.

The usual advice is that your 5 UCAS choices cover a range of grade requirements to maximise your chances of offers :

1 choice just above your predicted grades - one grade and not in a vital subject.

3 choices at your predicted grades - these are you most likely offers but are not guaranteed.

At least 1 choice well below your predicted grades - your potential Insurance choice.

Hi JJ,

You've already had some really good advice which I'd agree with. Its advisable to choose unis whose required grades your PGs meet, but its also perfectly fine (and advisable) to apply for a safety net uni with requirements pitched 1-2 grades below your PGs which you can use as an insurance choice and an aspirational uni who maybe ask for a grade higher than your PGs. As Muttley said, whether or not you get an offer for a course where you may not quite meet the required grades depends on how popular that course is that year and varies from uni to uni. Its important to pick an insurance choice that you'd definitely be happy going to just in case things don't go 100% our way on results day.

However I would stress that most unis, Bath included, look at a variety of factors when they look at your application - including not only your predicted grades but also your personal statement and extra-curriculars. Bath also take particular care to look at peoples' context and any extenuating/mitigating circumstances you may have. So whilst its important to get the best PGs you can, this is not the only factor your unis will look at to make their decision about an offer.

I hope some of this helps, all the best of luck 🙂
