How to Change a Referee for a New PGCE Application? Need Advice

Hi everyone,
I’m currently preparing a new PGCE application (Secondary Maths) after my previous application didn’t go as expected. I would really appreciate some guidance on how to correctly change or update a referee for the new application.
In my previous application, I used a university academic who, in hindsight, wasn’t the best fit—he only taught me in a literature course and didn’t have direct knowledge of my Maths subject knowledge or my school placement experience. For my new application, I’d like to use a more relevant referee (e.g. a placement supervisor or someone who can directly speak to my Maths teaching potential).
My questions are:
In the DfE Apply for Teacher Training system, can I simply add a new referee before submitting, or do I need to contact support?
Are there any restrictions or requirements on the type of referee (e.g. must it be academic, school-based, etc.)?
Has anyone else had experience switching referees between cycles?
I’ve emailed the support team but would love to hear from anyone who has done this or has tips on best practices. I really want to get it right this time and show the best evidence of my teaching potential.
Thanks so much in advance!

Could you contact Get Into Teaching and get them to help you? This all sounds like quite specific advice that is required.

My two referees have already given me reference letters, but one of them said something bad about me which led to my previous offer being withdrawn. I now want to apply for a new PGCE but I am afraid that the new course provider will see this bad reference letter.

What's a bit strange is that their answers are also very vague, sometimes they say yes and sometimes they say no.

When I wanted to remove a referee, I chatted the support team on the get into teaching website, told them that I want the referee removed, and they proceeded to remove the referee for me

When your referee was removed, had he submitted a reference? In my case, he submitted a bad reference, so I wanted to remove him, but I don’t know how to do it. I contacted the people there, but they haven’t removed it for me yet.

Mine hadn't submitted a reference yet. Explain your situation to them at get into teaching. They know what you can or can't do regarding referees
