Internal Transfer in Manchester Metropolitan?

Hello,

I have applied and got accepted to study Illustration with Animation BA (Hons) at MMU, I will start my studies in September 2025. However, I also took a look at the Animation BA (Hons) at SODA MMU and I think that course would be a better fit for me.
The course fees are the same, and I have paid the student deposit already. The courses are also in similar departments and my portfolio already got accepted, so I think it will be an easy switch.

I'm not sure who to communicate this to, so I'll just write my questions here and hope the ManMet acc sees this:

- Can I switch my bachelor online before the school year starts?
- When is the latest date I can change my bachelor in the first year of my studies?
- The program I applied to was a 3 year one, but I want to do a placement year in my new bachelor. Is it possible?
- Do I need to pay the deposit again? I hope I don't have to.
- Do I need to submit a portfolio again?

(to add, I'm an international student and I will travel to Manchester in September)

Hi @crowooze

Congratulations on your offer to study BA (Hons) Illustration with Animation with us.

It is absolutely possible to request a course change to BA (Hons) Animation. To do this you'll need to email our Art and Design Admissions team at [email protected], from the email address listed on your UCAS account and include your UCAS ID and date of birth. Your Illustration with Animation offer will remain until you receive a decision on the course change request.

If you would like to do a placement year, this is something that you arrange once enrolled on the course. You will be able to discuss this with your course tutors and our central Placements team.

There should be no need to pay an additional deposit. As for the portfolio, Admissions will confirm once they receive your course change request. It is unlikely we will need an additional portfolio.

I hope this helps.
Mel 😊
Thanks for jumping in on this with some great info @Manchester Metropolitan University. Generally for courses like animation, whether you ticked the box to do a 4 year degree when you applied or not is usually irrelevant as placement is typically not guaranteed (unless otherwise stated on the course information page).

If you fail to acquire a placement/internship you will default to going into your final year. The reverse is also true - if you don't apply to do a 4 year degree and get an internship, they will extend you to have a sandwich year.

Don't take my word as gospel since it will be at the discretion of your course lead usually but I would anticipate that to be the case!
