Retaking gcses

I am a 17-year-old and just last year I got the most heartbreaking news that I failed my GCSES and am retaking them this year, but I feel like I am gonna fail again, which I don’t want, and I want to pursue my career in psychology.

What if I fail again

I feel like a failure.

What do you think I should do?

Is it too late

do NOT feel like a failure. no matter what. you may have had an awful year like i did, but despite all odds, take that chance to retake all of your exams. but seriously focus hard. i know im just a guy over the internet helping and offering, but honestly, focus up, and believe in yourself (i do anyway 🙂)! good luck <3

Hi @imposing-jigsaw,

It's completely normal to worry about failure, especially when you've had a setback with your GCSEs in the past. However it's important to remember that your GCSE grades don't define you as a person, and a career in psychology is definitely still possible if you put your mind to it.

For example, lots of students struggle to pass GCSE Maths and English; some people naturally aren't strong in those two subjects but still have many academic strengths outside of them. However, you do need a passing grade in both Maths and English to pursue higher/further education, so it's important to focus on revision techniques that can help you achieve that pass. Try watching online revision videos to refresh your knowledge on topics whilst doing practice questions as you go along. Reflect on what happened in your last set of exams - did you feel overly stressed or overwhelmed when sitting the exam itself? How you can change that feeling this time around?

Overall, it's not too late; it's just about trying your best and revising as much material as you can. 🙂

Best of luck with your exams,
Eve (Kingston Rep).
