York - what's life like
Hi. What's life for a student like in York please? My DD is worried that there would be nothing to do....

Really good !! Nightlife might be small but super lively and fun and there’s so much to do like it’s bigger then u think and has nice rivers

Hey there,
I am currently a student from York St John and honestly its great. From my perspective it is a bustling little city where there's lots of little things you can do. There's 4 major shopping areas: Designer outlet, Monks Cross, Clifton Moor and Foss Islands/City Centre, so you definitely won't be struggling for shopping. With these there are activity centres like Hollywood bowl which is a student favourite and there are good transport links between these areas too.
However, I do a lot of bits for Student Ambassadors and at the Students Union, and if there's is one thing that is always the same from students - it's how nice York is. It's a lovely historic place, small but lots to explore, and very safe. It's lovely for nature walks too, as there's quite a push for sustainable transport including cycling paths around York so its really easy to get around. It can get quite busy, bare in mind as it is a touristy city, but it's still a great city overall. As the other post mentions, nightlife isn't massive in York but there are clubs, and to be honest, there are some quite good ones compared to other places. But even if you want to explore different parts of Yorkshire, Leeds is really cheap by train (you can get there and back usually for under £6) as the same with Hull and you can buses to Scarborough for £3. So it's really well connected city while just having the perks of being really nice, I'm staying here after university finishes. That's an honest student opinion.
