hiya, Its not absolutely vital but it does show that you are interested in the area. apart from that, its the best way to see if you can actually see your self in that job. i considered pharmacy and i did 1 week placement at a pharmacy and by day 2 i wanted to quit. it just really opens your eyes to the reality of the job. i did have to reach out to about 50 companies to see if they would accept me. if you cant find anything for the life of you, do super curricular activities, i joined the NHS youth forum and i speak about that and other things ive done, like building a website, over my actual work experience in my personal statement and interviews. if you were to ask me work experience or super curricular activities , i would 100% say super curricular activities have been more beneficial to me. obviously if you want to do accounting or anything else, i dont think joining the nhs youth forum would be 100% beneficial. i hope this helped somehow

Hey! So I am not doing vet med although i want to do medicine and I've heard from unis that work experience is really helpful for the application process as it basically shows you what life is like working in your chosen field. It isn't necessary but super super helpful and I would suggest trying to get a placement because its really good to talk about in interviews!! Hope this helps

For veterinary medicine?

Work experience is absolutely vital in my view. Not because admissions processes might require it but because you need to be 100% crystal clear of what the reality of the vet world entails and what challenges it brings. It is not for the faint hearted.
