How has Edinburgh rejected you when you meet the entry requirements or is there something extra you needed

It’s just a very competitive course and since everyone likely meets or is expected to meet the requirements there’s not much wiggle room I guess. They only made judgements based on personal statements this year (no portfolio) so maybe I just wasn’t what they were looking for or my personal statement was weaker than other applicants, I guess I’ll never really know

Thank you!

The workload was definitely a lot, I kinda knew that going into S6 but I feel like I didn’t realise exactly how much it would be. A lot of that also has to do with the fact that I have a lot of other activities on outside of just class work—I take part in our school show, choir, lead the school magazine which includes doing the graphics for it, also am a house captain and I have a job outside all of this too. My uni applications as well, I had to make a portfolio too, so it all kind of amounted up and was pretty stressful at times. I took on a lot of the extra things as I do enjoy them and I wanted to make the most out of my last year, but it was definitely not easy.

For the subjects themselves, I don’t think people quite realise how much is expected of you for advanced higher level. I remember being in S4 and people telling me the jump from N5 to Higher was much worse than Higher to Advanced Higher, and while I feel that is partly true (in terms of coursework and theory, for example) people kind of forget to mention the work load expected from advanced higher. It’s so much more demanding than the levels below. AH graphics, for example, has a really demanding project that is nothing like the ones in N5 and Higher level since it’s completely self directed. Physics, theory wise, was similar to N5 and Higher. I found the course fairly simple in terms of content isn’t too difficult to grasp and there isn’t much of it but the concepts themselves are more advanced. The project definitely prepares you more for something you’d do at uni (although I’m saying that without having gone yet lmao). AH maths is painful to be completely honest. Maths has always been my strong subject but it is a LOT at AH level, there is just so much content and so little time. As for higher computing, it definitely added work load but for me it was my laid back subject as I’ve found it easier to pick up higher content having already done 5 and also now doing advanced highers as well. I spent a lot of time in that class working on my advanced highers instead since I usually finished work quickly. It was a subject I could’ve dropped early in the year but I do enjoy it very much.

All in all, it was stressful and I definitely procrastinated a lot. It did take a mental toll on me at times, but I’m finding it rewarding now that I’m almost finished! 😊

Sorry for the extremely long post but I wanted to try and share all aspects of how I found it this year!

Hi, I am also doing pretty such every subject you are doing. I just did my advanced maths exam today and currently preparing for advanced physics. How did you found the project for advanced graphics. My school actually doesn’t offer advanced graphics as a subject, so I had to do pretty much every thing on my own without any help. Regardless I still got an A in prelims and I think my project went pretty good.

I really struggled with it! Originally I was planning on doing a completely different route with it but that wasn’t working out. With everything else I had on I just could not find the motivation for it at all. We didn’t get much help either as our teacher wanted us to work more independently (still got resources and some help on some things but primarily independent study) but I think part of it was I still hadn’t fully recovered from doing my D&M assignment the year before lol. Once I’d finished my project I think I did a good job, definitely left it quite last minute tbh. I think I struggled with technical graphics the most as sizes and components were just not working with my brain and I honestly just could not find the motivation to do it. Prelims were okay but I found the exam for graphics this year kinda..strange? Good on you for being able to do it independently!

How did you find the transition from nat 5 to higher and higher to advanced higher?

I was planning to do an architecture based one but I just felt the way the assignment was structured for the technical graphics I couldn’t really think of a good way to do it. I ended up making a kettle instead and did my cvmg on a kitchen installation and supply company!

I think in terms of course content Nat 5 to Higher was a lot more? I’m not sure how to explain it but it was a very similar structure but more in depth material and a bigger bank of theory, I guess. Personally I found it okay, but maybe I’m just saying that in hindsight lol. Higher to AH in terms of course content is similar I’d say. Subjects with coursework I found the course content pretty easy to grasp and there wasn’t LOADS, whereas maths had a lot of course content since its just an exam. The coursework is fairly demanding since they are quite large. I think it’s not necessarily more difficult in the way N5 to H is but it’s more difficult because of the pure demand with how much you need to do in comparison to N5 and H I think? Also because at that point you’ve done it for 2 years straight already and you’re kinda burnt out lmao

yeah it was kinda difficult but i ended up doing a flatpack playhouse thing for kids and it was great for the technical and the CVMG

Ah that totally makes sense! Yeah I struggled trying to find where I’d put all those complex modelling techniques

Hey i do all 3 sqa higher sciences (chemistry, human biology, physic) and math, computing. i am really looking for 4 study buddies at each subject. Please can anyone help me and reach out to me. I need 4 study buddy for each subject and my plan is to use group learning strategy on google classroom. My plan is we can use this strategy to improve learning. I am begging for someone to reach me out. This apply to all my subject. A person that does some of the same subject i do can also be my group study buddy for multiple subject.
