Choosing a college

Hi!
I am planning to study at Durham University as a postgraduate student and I was told to decide on a college. Any advise on which college is the best choice? I’m especially interested in active college life, I love societies, social events, and being part of a lively community. Being in a college where these aspects are strong is quite important to me.

Thanks in advance!

Hello! When choosing a college at Durham University as a postgraduate student, it’s worth considering the fact that colleges are more similar than they are different. Ustinov is Durham’s only postgrad-only college so it is definitely one to check out.

If you enjoy an active community, all of our colleges offer a strong variety of social events, active societies, and a welcoming postgraduate community. Think about whether you prefer a centrally located college close to the city centre or one on the hill with more on-campus activities. But remember that Durham is a super walkable city so no matter which college you go to you will be able to walk into the town centre fairly quickly.

I would also recommend this podcast episode about the colleges system: Click here

There is also a YouTube video on this Link which gives even more insight into colleges.

I hope that you find all of the info useful!
