Accom in Cardiff

Hi, I have a couple of questions about accommodation, any advice would be nice!
1. I was wondering if anyone has lived at or living at Cambrian Point, as I have confirmed this place, and what their experience was like, and if it's close to lectures for business?
2. Do many first years go for unite students or just go to uni halls?
3. Also was wondering if anyone has any advice on what to bring, like things you didn't think you needed and forgot about!

Thanks!!

Hi! - Third year business student here.
I have never lived in Cambrian Point but I have stayed in another Cardiff unite residence last year and in my opinion they're decent accommodation options. They're not super luxurious but Cambrian point is actually one of the most modern ones and have seen generally positive reviews about it. It's on Maindy road so super close to the business school where you'll have your lectures and you have lidl just 10 mins away by foot. You'll probably also be going into town and the SU often and is also very well located for this.

On my first year I don't think it was that common to meet people who would stay in unite residences as they were a bit more expensive than university halls and they weren't reserved for first years back then. However, unite is very considerate of your personal profile and will try to match you with flatmates that go to your same course or same uni.

For your third question, I think that the less you take with you the better. A year really isn't that long and the moving out process can be really exhausting if you have a lot of things to move out. Don't stress too much about forgetting things back home - this happens to everyone and for most things you can just buy a cheap replacement once you're there.

Hiya!
Yeah @VimiPA gave some nice insights, and I have also never lived or been to Cambrian point. Yeah, most first years do go into uni halls, but you will find some first years in Cambrian, but private accommodation does tend to see more students in later years of uni. We have this page here giving a basic outline of what to bring, which you might've seen already, do bear in mind, in private accommodation don't provide all the same things as uni halls, like toaster, kettle. Some things I might also suggest:

Travel mug

Blanket

Pins/magnets

Photos and some comfort things

Powerbank ?

Sliders (or similar)

Mattress protector

A couple Tupperware boxes

Extension cables

Hangers

Laundry pods

Under bed storage box

Baking tray (i forgot ahha)

These are some maybe non-basic things that I find useful. People usually do over-pack though!
I hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions!
