Student Finance Wales and Repeating a year

Hello I’m wondering if someone can answer a question regarding my son.

My son has additional needs and learning differences due to AuDHD and fluctuating mental health.

He started his undergrad three years ago but did not like the university so changed to a local one. He is now in his second year and has so far received three years funding, and four by the end of his course.

However, the university has been poor in implementing specialist study skills support and he has fallen behind and feels overwhelmed. His mental health also took a set back this last academic year.

My question is: if he has to repeat this second year in 25/26 will he be able to get mitigating circumstances and an extra year’s funding for his third year in 26/27?

Thanks in advance.

You would need to provide evidence of 'compelling personal reasons' for an extra year to be funded. Contact SFW to ask what evidence is required.

Thank you for this. So if repeating a year would result in 5 years funding, it can be done if he provides evidence of compelling personal circumstances?

I belive so if he has appropriate evidence, but do check with SFW as I'm more familar with SFE's processes.
