From Law Degree to Consulting

Hi,

I was wondering if someone could help me. I am about to finish my law degree and have decided to switch from pursuing a career in commercial law as a solicitor, to pursuing consulting. Where do I even start? Are they application cycles from August to November? Or is there still time now to apply for roles? Also what resources can I use to find out about deadlines, the solicitor equivalent is Legal cheek, what can I do to improve my CV as currently I only have law work experience and customer service experience?

Consulting in what? Law or something else? Unless I'm missing something obvious here, the role of a consultant is to provide expert advice and assistance to customers, usually on a self employed basis. It's quite difficult to go directly into consulting when you don't have sufficient experience to call yourself an expert. Even consultant solicitors need to be qualified and have a reasonable amount of experience before they go into consulting. Again, unless I'm missing something obvious.

Perhaps the OP means Management Consultancy. I don't know how people obtain entry level jobs in that field, save for the fact that quite a few people who take that route have MBAs.

OP, have you checked the websites of McKinsey, Bain, Cap Gemini, and the big accountancy firms which have consulting practices?

I think there are graduate schemes for consulting e.g. at the Big 4 accounting firms and firms like BCG
