My Grandad died 2 weeks before my first A-Level exam

My Grandad had a serious accident on the 21st of April which was completely unexpected and unfortunately led to his death exactly a week later on the 28th of April. Ever since he was hospitalised from this accident everything has become really busy and kinda messed up especially as we were unsure about what the outcome was going to be for him. Since his death my dad has been busy sorting out everything to do with him and everything has become unplanned and kinda random. I have found this situation to have added extra stress during a time period that I am already extremely anxious for. My first exam is on the 12th of May and my last is on the 19th of June. My parents told me to look into special consideration so I have but I still don't quite understand how it will apply to my situation or my exams. They also told me to talk to my head of sixth form about it but I feel awkward about it and not sure how to really talk to them about it.

I'm really sorry for your loss. I'm going to be taking my A-Levels soon but a similar thing happened during my GCSEs. If it's ok with you I would rather not go into the details. The point is my school sent me an email regarding special consideration during exam season. From my experience, I was able to choose up to 3 exams that I would get special consideration for and send that to the exam office. Then the exam office sends your request to the exam boards for the exams you have chosen. If the request is accepted, a small percentage is added to the raw mark. The percentage is determined by using the guidelines agreed by all the awarding bodies and published by JCQ.

Special consideration guidelines:
AQA - https://www.aqa.org.uk/exams-administration/special-requirements/special-consideration
Edexcel - https://qualifications.pearson.com/en/support/support-topics/exams/special-requirements/special-consideration.html
OCR - https://www.ocr.org.uk/administration/general-qualifications/assessment/special-consideration/

However, this is what I remember. If you want to be sure, I would suggest asking your school and they should be able to provide you with some support. I know this is a very difficult time right now but you are doing really well. If you have any other questions let me know.

All the best for your A-Levels!!! 👍️
