Warwick VS Durham Economics

I've been given offers to study at both Durham and Warwick for economics but I am really stuck choosing between courses. I went to the open day at Durham and really loved the collegiate system and I preferred the social aspect a lot more. I'm not particular keen on the Warwick campus but know the course is highly regarded. It seems to me Durham are putting a lot more investment into finance subjects like economics as they now have a new business school and I may feel that they could become more of a target uni alongside Warwick by the time I would graduate. Does anyone know if the prestigiousness of the courses is so significant enough that I should firm Warwick instead? Also, does anyone know how much harder it is to get internships at Durham over Warwick for spring/summer internships as I know these as some of the most important factors to trying to break into IB after uni?

hey! i am in the same position as you except economics with management at durham or economics and management at warwick. i am finding it so hard to choose! the collegiate system in durham is wonderful and seems like it could be a home away from home, but warwick seems very good career-wise and gives students lots of support. i guess its the weight up between social life and academics! wish the decision was easier to make!! how are you finding it? have you chosen yet? if so, do you have any advice on how to choose?

Warwick for Econ is much better than Durham in terms of research and practically everything in terms of Econ, finance etc. Actually at one point it was even top 30 best in the world! It’s currently 36th in world via QTS world rankings and 59th in the World ranking for Econ and business. If you’re looking for social life over academia maybe Econ at a high end RG is the wrong choice, if you find social life, clubbing going out often then maybe you need to reconsider course and place. Warwick has been consistently up there as one of the best in the UK top 5 and best in the world for quite some time now, I dont see how in 3/4 years Durham could overtake that with a new business school etc. However, employers wont really care which one you go to both are respectable and highly prestigious in their own right. But wish you all the best

i was also stuck in the same dilema and decided to choose warwick in the end. as much as i really liked the idea of the collegiate system and gowned formals, there are still many social events at warwick which offers opportunities like these. also, career wise i think it will open a lot more doors with internships and improved access to careers such as ib. if you want any more advice it may be easier to talk through instagram etc if you want me to go into more detail on certain aspects on why i chose warwick

Hiya I’m in thinking of applying for econ at these two 🙂
Can I ask if you had further maths? - I have maths econ chem physics currently (about to enter year 12)

Also no worries if not but is there any chance I could get your email to ask about any Warwick questions and is there any chance at all I could see your personal statement? If not I completely understand

Morning!!! As its results day I was curious about what you firmed and insured and where your going in the end!!! I heading into year 13 now so haven’t applied yet but I loved the Durham open day and it jsut felt really nice and like they made and effort. However I get that Warwick had a bit of an academic edge ….

Did you have further maths too? And did you TMUA? Thanks!!!!!! also slightly cheekily is there any way I could see your personal statement for ideas (obviously not to copy or reword) these are two unis I really want to target. thank you!!!
