Birmingham postgraduate international student

I'm going to attend the University of Birmingham this September, and I'm an outgoing person. I'm quite sensitive to noise and cleanliness. I’d like to participate in social gatherings but also want to focus on my studies. Given my situation, which type of accommodation do you think would suit me best? This will be my first time living abroad, so any advice would be appreciated.

Hey! 😊 I’m currently a postgrad student at UOB, and it’s great that you’re thinking ahead about accommodation. I also did the same.
Since you’re outgoing but also value peace and cleanliness, I’d recommend en-suite halls in quieter accommodations like Chamberlain, Aitken, or Shackleton. They strike a good balance as you get your own bathroom and a shared flat, so there’s a mix of social and personal space. 😃
If you prefer more independence and less noise, studio flats or postgraduate specific halls could be a great fit too though they can be a bit more expensive. But feel free to check options here: https://www.birmingham.ac.uk/accommodation
And welcome to the UoB 😃

Hey! Same here, I’m an international student too, and it was my first time living abroad when I came to Birmingham. I totally get the confusion around accommodation and I spent hours researching!
I ended up choosing a postgrad en-suite in university accommodation because it gave me privacy (my own bathroom) but also a shared kitchen to meet others. It has worked really well for finding a balance between quiet study time and having a social circle.😃
If you want fewer distractions, I’d avoid party-heavy halls and maybe look for postgrad-only blocks or quieter options like Chamberlain or Jarratt Hall. 😄

Hello, I do not know much about noise and cleanliness in the University Accommodation, I live in a residential student accommodation outside of Uni and it is pretty good!

Based on my experience as a student at the University of Birmingham, there are numerous accommodation options to suit various preferences. I highly recommend applying for an en-suite room, as it offers added privacy and convenience. University accommodations are generally quiet and conducive to studying, with accommodation staff ensuring a safe and peaceful environment.
