The Student Room Group

Collingwood college in Durham university

Hello!
I’m considering putting Collingwood as my first choice. I’ve read that about two weeks before arrival, students are asked to state their preference between:
Standard rooms with shared bathrooms
En-suite rooms with private bathrooms.

If I request option (standard), is there still a chance I might be allocated to option (en-suite)?

I’ve also read that en-suite students at Collingwood are required to vacate their rooms during both the Christmas and Easter vacations, which would force me to either pay for expensive hotel accommodation or return to my home country during these periods. Is there any indication that international students or first-years are given priority for standard rooms to avoid this issue?

It's a lottery as to which option to get however they do take consideration medical reason as to have an ensuite so imagine they might also consider your reasons to not have one if you mention it to them. most people prefer ensuite so you chances are probably higher to get shared bathrooms anyway
