Warwick 2nd/3rd year accomodation

Going to Warwick this September, accommodation seems great in the first year- right on campus! I’m unsure about the 2nd and 3rd years as I hear most people live in lemington (or Coventry) which is a 30/40 min bus ride away.
If I took a car would the time be similar?
I don’t really want to commute every day and I hear the buses get very crowded. Do any Warwick students have any insights or advice? What times is it not so busy? And do you have to be on campus every day- I’m studying EPP if that’s relevant
Thankyou!!

In 2nd and 3rd year you can stay on campus: they have options available, but you need to be quick to choose your choices - I believe that booking for returning undergraduates to remain on campus normally opens in November

Hi - there are options available for second year on campus if you want to live near the uni like Vita and the Oaks

Hiya! my friends with cars find it quicker to get to campus from leam compared to catching the bus. You could also live in Canley (a neighbouring area to the uni) where many warwick students live because its walking distance to campus. I'm currently in an accom in coventry and it only takes me 20mins on the bus to get to uni, so there are many options to choose from!

Hello,
I will also be starting at Warwick this September and I am currently looking for accommodation. My top priority is safety. What is Earlsdon like as an area? I’m specifically considering Albany Student House.
I couldn’t find any student-style accommodation options in Kenilworth.
Would you recommend choosing Leamington instead of Earlsdon?

I haven't been in Earlsdon much, but I've heard decent things from people who live there and I've not had any issues travelling through it.
I don't think there's anything much to commend Leam over Earlsdon. Leamington is slightly nicer than Earlsdon, but Earlsdon is also closer and it's out of the centre of Coventry - my guess is also that the buses will be less busy as Leam can end up with pretty nasty bottlenecks.
Kenilworth doesn't have loads of options so you'd need to have looked a few months ago.

If your top priority is safety, then on-campus accommodation is probably the best option, but by the sounds of it you have ruled that out already?

Yes, unfortunately, because there are no available rooms at the moment. If there were, I would book one immediately.

Hi @Cabbagedragons !

I've just finished my second year studying EPP and I lived in Leamington this past year so I can give some insight on that. The number of days you go in depends on the modules you take and when your seminars are - I was generally going to campus 3-4 days per week, and almost everyday during exam season as I preferred studying on campus. With most EPP modules you can choose your seminar timings, so you can align them in a way that works best for you - whether you'd rather spread them out, or put them all together so you go in fewer days.

The bus is usually busier towards the start of each term, and is quite busy around morning and evening compared to afternoon/midday. If you live in south Leamington it's a lot easier to get the bus as that's where it starts from, so you won't have any issues getting a seat etc - it is harder in north Leamington though as the buses sometimes get full. If you drive it would likely take less time, but you'd have to pay for parking on campus.

Personally I still enjoyed living in Leamington in 2nd year - despite the commute, it's nice to get a change from living on campus and there's also lots more to do (shops, restaurants, clubs etc). Also EPP doesn't have a lot of contact hours relative to some other courses - it's quite rare to have multiple days in the week where you're in for the whole day.

Overall though I wouldn't worry too much as you might find that you change your mind later depending on what your friends/flatmates do for 2nd year accom. Hope that helps and let me know if you have any questions about accom/EPP!

Best wishes,
