These are my predictions, but obviously, nothing is guaranteed.

Nature is highly likely to come up this year - it's not come up yet (except the specimen paper I believe), and none of the nature poems have been named yet. This anthology ends next year, so it'll come up this year or in the 2026 exams. Otherwise, it could be the passage of time, childhood, or power could be repeated.

I'm focusing my revision on the poems that are yet to come up, particularly the nature poems. Here are the poems that haven't come up yet:

The Soldier

She Walks in Beauty

Living Space - unlikely as the theme of place was in the 2023 exam

As Imperceptibly as Grief

Cozy Apologia - unlikely as Manhunt (2024) and Afternoons (2020) were both about relationships

Valentine

Death of a Naturalist - strong contender

Hawk Roosting

To Autumn

Prelude - strong contender

Hi there! I do eduqas too - how likely do you think As Imperceptibly as Grief is likely to come up, and if it does what themes/poems would you use for comparison?

It's actually quite likely.

As Imperceptibly as Grief hasn't come up as the named poem yet, and it's central themes of the passage of time and change & transformation are yet to come up.

People often forget that the named poems have to be accessible to grade 1 - 4 candidates, so poems that are too long or complicated won't likely be used. As Imperceptibly as Grief is relatively short, and isn't exactly hard to understand, making it a likely contender.

If nature doesn't come up this year (which I doubt), As Imperceptibly as Grief would probably come up as the named poem. However, I would revise the other poems that haven't come up, and some that have already come up just in case - even if you do the bare minimum. I'm personally focusing my revision on nature, passage of time, and childhood poems.

In regards to poems you could compare it to..

To Autumn is a good one as it also links seasonal imagery with the passage of time, would be good to learn this poem for the theme of nature as well

Afternoons also links seasonal imagery with the passage of time, uses nature to symbolise change - as Afternoons has already come up, I wouldn't really revise it

A Wife in London explores loss, the same way As Imperceptibly as Grief does, but as loss has already come up it's unlikely, though we have seen themes repeated in this exam so who knows

Tysm for the comparisons 🙂 Ooh that could be true.. however my teacher did say that this is one of the harder poems which would be quite difficult for grade 1 - 4 candidates to access. Which ones would you say are the easiest 4 and hardest 4 poems in the anthology? Also they could potentially use Prelude for passing of time/childhood (most likely childhood) if its not nature. Im just praying that we get a good poem 😭

I would probably say Hawk Roosting because nature hasn’t come up yet and the poem isn’t too hard for lower grade students. If they do passage of time / change then I could see the poem being Death of a Naturalist because it’s easily comparable to quite a few poems. If they chose to go really random and do relationships then I would say Valentine.

yeah a lot of people are predicting death of a naturalist, hawk roosting and the prelude. But i mean anything could come up because last year they were probably expecting a nature poem but got the manhunt instead
