MLA Law Conversion Course Online

Hi, does anyone have any insight into the online MA law conversion course with the University of Law? I was very interested and applied and got an offer but I am still debating whether this is the path I want to take. Does anyone recommend that an on campus course would be more beneficial? It is also an expensive course for one year online, student finance doesn't cover it so I want to be more certain before going into it!

Thanks

Hey there!!

Congratulations on getting an offer with the University of Law. Truly, it is an amazing achievement and things will hopefully be great moving forwards!!

I am doing the LLM SQE (1 & 2) programme, however, I did do my first semester at uni of law with MA law conversion students. They were very motivated on the programme and hopefully someone steps in to give an insight into their experience.

However, I can assist you on all the other queries that you have. I enjoyed taking the in person course. I understand this is a subjective decision and for me I knew i cannot focus online because there is just not enough attention retention, motivation, or personal contact to the lectures. Therefore, for it was a no brainer.

However, I appreciate that doing it online is good for those students who are unable to travel or prefer flexible work environments. Just know either way you take or option you choose, the same educational materials and resources are available for online and offline course takers. There is no real difference in what is being provided and access to materials, so I hope it is useful to know that!

So, yes. In short, I know i enjoyed taking the in person option more but it is important to weigh your options. For the money worth, it is a very expensive degree so for me it was a step to becoming a lawyer in the UK. Therefore, it was not a real option for me. If i was to choose again, I would choose uni of law primarily because the tutors are amazing and were qualified practitioners, this makes the teaching invaluable.

I personally enjoy uni of law and would not have it another way. Since you are doing a conversion, it would be a best option to go to an open day and experience what the services offered at the university are. It would also help to go to the Unibuddy website and ask someone doing the MA conversion course for specific course advise.

I really hope that helps!!

Hello Emily!
Hope you have been getting on well with things!

Apologies that I am unsure about the MA Law Conversion course classes. I do not know if they have any extra modules. However, for my SQE 1 part of the course, I had about 6 classes per week for 2 hours each.

Like I suggested, you would be best placed to get in touch with someone on Unibuddy or speak to the student services team to help you get in touch with any tutors for such specific doubts. Alternatively, attend an open day and learn a bit more about the structure of your course, as these are really good questions to be get ahead in planning!

all the best with your journey!!
