Is Falmouth Uni good?

So, I'm deciding between Falmouth (sustainable product design) and MMU (BA product design). The problem is I haven't been to Falmouth, and my knowledge is based on my friend's visit to Exeter, social media, the virtual tour and reviews. If anyone could give me an idea of what it's actually like there, the facilities and how it is to live there and do the course, it would be appreciated.

It's about as different to MMU as it could be in terms of location! My experience of Fal is that the teaching has been good (no experience of your course though) but Falmouth is nothing like Manchester, and nothing like Exeter either! It really is a small town and a long way from anywhere that could be considered a city (ok Truro is a technically a city but it's not much bigger than Fal and is probably less lively and certainly less young).

There is plenty going on in Falmouth in terms of live music and there are a lot of pubs and a couple of nightclubs - but you won't get big bands coming to town and the pool of people here is quite small and intimate - everyone knows everyone. The beaches are AMAZING though - and Manchester definitely doesn't have that.

I think you need to consider whether you will be happy in a small place far from anywhere (even Exeter is 2 hour drive / 3 hours on the train) or whether deep down, you're really a city person. I LOVE Falmouth and am so glad I picked it, but can see that some might find it stifling.

Oo thanks for responding! I've had a talk with my course leader and the course seems really good and I think I would enjoy it there as I'm too anxious and quiet to go to go clubbing and partying! Could you tell me more about ur experience there and just the general uni student life? Is it easy to buy food and other things? Also if you stayed in accomodation which one(s) would you recommend? Also how's the transport and getting to places locally (/going home if u live further away).

Thank you sorry for all the questions!

Just thinking, what are the jobs like (part-time to help with costs), and how was it finding accommodation for the 2nd year if you're at that stage?

Transport: Quite bad tbh. Buses between Penryn and Falmouth are ok but it takes a long time to get anywhere else and public transport is thin on the ground. Ideally you'd have a car.

Accom: you don't really get a choice as it's allocated by ballot so just list your preferences and hope for the best. Would recommend preferencing accommodation closer to your particular campus as the bus is an extra expense and a bit of a pain. Second year housing is quite expensive £600pcm+ and you have to get on with securing it as there is a limited supply.

Shopping: There is a massive Asda in Penryn, a Sainsburys and a Lidl on the road into Falmouth and a couple of Tesco Express shops in the centre of Fal.

Student life is different but good. Lots of people are interested in outdoor activities and nature and less interested in getting wasted. Also some pretty nice pubs and live music plus a couple of not-great nightclubs. Oh and the beach!!

Summer jobs for June, July August are easy to find. Year round jobs not so much - although if you're flexible and very determined it will prob be ok.

Thank you for the response  if I pass my driving test 🤞do you know where I would park or would it be a park somewhere and bike into the campus or something?

If you were to choose a uni again knowing all the positives and negatives, would you still pick falmouth? And would you say that the negatives don't have too much of an impact on ur uni life and studying?
