I am going to be 26 this month and I don't know what I am doing with my life

I graduated September 2024 and I have been working as a temp admin staff at my local hospital. I have an internship in the summer at a museum but I am not sure what to do after that. I have been rejected from 3 grad schemes so far and I am going to apply to two more (applications in autumn, for a January start). I am not feeling very hopeful and I don't know what career I want. I am starting to think I am not suitable for any job and I feel quite hopeless. I am having a crisis because I don't know what I want to do for my career but the problem might be the way I feel about life in general...

Well I'm only 18 so I'm not sure if my advice will be helpful enough by why not. It's okay to feel down when you don't get what you want and when ur unsure. Wallow for a while, just relax and eat or whatever u do when you down. But the problems starts when you keep wallowing. After just relaxing, plan what u need to do. like on phone or paper as list. like goals on whatever you want to achieve whether that be grad schemes, what kind of job or what you want ur life to be. I heard somewhere if you want to figure out what kind of job u want, first decide how you want ur life to be like e.g do you want to travel, work 9-4 kinda thing. You alway have to be postive or else it kinda bums you down.

If you don't know what you want to do, why do you think you would get very far with grad schemes?

Have you done any reflective thinking? It's usually the go to to find out what you want to do e.g.

What do you wanted to do when you were 5 years old?

What are your values and why are they important to you?

What do you need to do in your job in order to feel fulfilled? What task in a job would drive you up the wall?

If you weren't paid a penny, what would you go out of your way to do?

What would you regret the most not doing?

Describe to me the times when you felt happy. What were you doing? What were those situations?

What do most people come to you for?

What could you not shut up about?

What do you obsess over? Why?

What are your strengths and weaknesses?

What don't you mind doing over and over day in day out?

Who were your role models? What do they do?

What sort of people did you grew up around? What did they do?

Do not go for jobs just because of the status and money that come with them. If you do, you are just clouding your mind in doing what you actually want to do. Working for money and status would wear out very quickly. This applies for similar perks like travelling (when you have to travel all of the time, you would end up dreading it).
