Has anyone ever gotten a U before in their year 12 summer exams?

I’m currently a student in year 12 and I have just done my mocks that will be used for our predicted grade. I fear that I might have gotten a U in one of my exams and I was wondering if any former year 12s have ever been in this situation and if so what did they do and were your UCAS grades badly affected. Please let me know as I am extremely worried right now

I did really poorly on most of my mocks (C-U usually) in y12. Luckily, my teachers were aware that I generally do much better in public exams and took my homework, classwork and effort into account. They also generally predicted everyone the grade which they needed to get into their top choice uni.

It’s worth speaking to your teachers about whether there are any resources which they recommend or specific areas you should focus on learning first.
My further maths teacher also allowed me to stay after school one day a week for him to go through my homework assignment with me - I struggled to know what exactly I didn’t understand, so being able to talk through what I thought I needed to do to answer the question and having him there to tell me whether I was on the right track (or why I wasn’t) was incredibly helpful.

Definitely at least speak to your teachers about your worries about your predicted grades, they might take your care and desire to do better into account.
I was able to achieve all A*-B by the end of year 13, so it’s definitely possible to make a comeback.

Thank you, this is really reassuring to hear, on my last year 12 mock I got a B in politics which this time I got a U. What grades were you predicted at the end? And did they make you resit the exam that you got a U in? I think ucas grades this year need to be sent of in July so I’m not sure if I should ask my politics teacher for me to resit the exam as I wasn’t so happy with the result. I’m just worried that my UCAS grade will be affected and my relationship with my politics teacher

Hi @cxngoz ,

I'm sorry to hear this is worrying you! I would definitely recommend talking with your teachers to get some support. Hopefully you can discuss an arrangement where they can use material you have produced in class, or possibly do some extra homework, to evidence your grade being boosted for your predictions.

If you have any past tests, make sure to gather these up and use as evidence when talking with your teacher. It's very likely they will want to support you in improving your grades so don't let this stress you out too much! If you are unable to talk about this in person or find the time, drop them an email and explain your situation.

There are always other solutions so please don't let this make you feel down!

I hope this helps, please feel free to ask me any questions,
-Sophia (University of Central Lancashire)

Just to be 100% realistic, your teachers will likely only predict you 1 grade higher for UCAS, unless you resit or show irrefutable evidence you can do much better. It reflects badly on them if they don't predict you accurately

What if I’ve been getting Bs and As all year but get a D in mock

I know but I don’t know how I’m going to ask my teachers to predict me an AAB from a ADD

Well it depends on the school, obviously speak to your teachers - but in general, they can't drastically overpredict

Our predicted grades need to be sent off at the end of year 12. One of the teachers I’m going to chat with and the other I have another exam so I can try and get a higher grade on that

Well just be honest with them, explain how you will better your grade (e.g. extra summer work, essays etc.)

Grades are not submitted to UCAS until your application goes in so there's time to change.

No they don't go to UCAS until your application goes in - why are your school telling you untruths?
