2nd Degree with Foundation Year, how does LLE rules impact funding?

I’ve been given an offer to study my 2nd bachelors degree at the University of Liverpool. It is a 4 year course for an Allied Health Profession. One of the years is a Foundation Year (Foundation to Human and Animal Health Professions) but I am confused how this will work after reading up about the Lifelong Learning Entitlement (LLE).

Q1). I am starting the course in either September 2025 or September 2026. How will this impact me throughout each year of study?

Q2). As it’s my second degree (I already have one) and it is regarded as an exemption course, will I still qualify to get all 4 years of full tuition AND maintenance loan funding. I don’t want to start the course then suddenly in Year 2 I can’t get funding anymore!

Q3) Will I also still get 1 additional ‘gift’ year if worse case scenario I need to resit a year (totalling 5 years of full funding) under the new LLE rules?

Thanks

Hi Yisayuu,

We don't yet have details about the eligibility for LLE and this won't be opening till 2027.

If you're starting course in 25/26 academic year then we can check if the course will be classed as one of our exception courses or not.

Thanks,
Claire

It’s Foundation to Human and Animal Health Profession Diagnostic Radiography. Starting in September 2025 or September 2026 at the latest.

Is it possible that in the worse case scenario I can suddenly have no eligibility for full tuition and maintanence funding for my course come 2027 based on how the government rules are for the LLE? My worst fear is starting my course and then in Year 2 of my course and suddenly not being eligible for funding.

I can't find anything with this course name on the database. Is that definite the name of the course?

Thanks,
Claire

The description the university have advised is a foundation year which would then lead onto the Diagnostic Radiography course. The foundation year isn't an exception so wouldn't be funded by us but Diagnostic Radiography would be classed normally as as exception.

Thanks,
Claire

This is conflicting because a previous colleague of yours told me the foundation year would be funded? What’s true and what isn’t because I already accepted the offer and if I can’t get funding now I have to pull out. I am worried now and panicking.

I am planning to do the foundation year first (year 0) followed by the BSc (3 years) if I succeed in the foundation year.

This means I am doing it as a 4 year course.

See your colleague (Drew) response here:
https://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=7572362#post100478904

Also to another poster your colleague Leah said all 4 years would be covered? https://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=7574988

So what is true and what isn’t?

Also I just made a Student Finance England application and the course shows as “Diagnostic Radiography with Foundation (FYR) to H&VS University of Liverpool” to run from September 2025 to May 2029.

Hi Yisayuu,

You mentioned you've been advised already the course is eligible and you've stated above you've made an application for 25/26. If so, then the application will go to be processed in an estimated 12 working days for you.

Thanks, Jason

Hi Jason

That’s right but I have been told conflicting information from Clare. Clare stated that the foundation year wouldn’t not be funded. So that’s why I am worrying since your advisors are saying different things!

Thanks. If you've submitted your application then this takes an estimated 12 working days to process. If you monitor your account for this updating accordingly for you. Thanks, Jason
