Edinburgh v Queen Mary

Hi, I have applied to do a degree in Computer Science but I am having trouble deciding on which uni to choose.

As I live in London I had originally planned to go to Queen Mary as I am aware it is a good uni for CS.

However after talking to a few people, many have suggested the uni of Edinburgh instead.

After doing some research myself I am aware that both are good unis for CS and I wouldn't mind studying at either after looking at their modules.

Obviously I currently live in London so Queen Mary is better in that stance however, I used to live in Scotland when I was younger and wouldn't mind moving there for uni again.

Just curious to know if anyone has any advice/opinions (especially if they have studied that degree at either uni or know people that have) to help me decide.

What is the area around Queen Mary like? Have you visited the surrounding neighbourhood of QM?

Yes I have, its in Tower Hamlets, specifically Mile End which is just a residential area with big parks, but there are many pubs, bars, and live music venues in Shoreditch which isn't too far if you're into the night life, and there's some really good food like on Brick Lane. Being in London things are pretty expensive so I assume accommodation might be as well, but there's the TfL everywhere so transport shouldn't be an issue. I won't lie the area isn't the most safest especially at night but I've been quite a few times, even alone, and I've never seen anything plus many young people and students hang around there without any issues so I wouldn't worry too much - just keep an eye out as you would in any big city. It's a very diverse area as well and there's a lot of culture there.

If you live in London and you like the area of Tower Hamlets I would definitely say QM, it's by no means a worse uni especially for CS

Edinburgh would be your best option.
