medicine at cambridge without maths?

hello - i'm a yr 12 student currently studying bio, chem, music and psychology and am looking to apply for medicine at uni. i'd originally completely given up on apply to cambridge for medicine because you basically had to take maths and i was advised not to apply because it's obviously a waste of an application. recently, i checked the website, and the entry requirements for 2026 say this:

"For Medicine, the following Colleges require A Levels/IB Higher Levels (or the equivalent) in:

Chemistry
one other science or mathematics subject from:
Mathematics
Biology or Human Biology
Physics
Further Mathematics"

And then, there is a list of 9 colleges.

if you do check the website, there are more than double the colleges who do require you to take maths, and at the bottom of the page it does say that almost all cambridge students take maths - but i suppose this is a given since these were the entry requirements last year and i assume for previous years. i do notice that they've removed a statistic that said something along the lines of a huge % of students who apply for cambridge medicine take maths and out of the percentage of people who don't take maths a tiny % of those get a place.

by removing this, is it allowing/encouraging students who don't take maths to apply? or am i reading too much into this?

would it be worth submitting an application?

You aren't doing physics either so there are two subject that they are asking for that you don't have.

You're conflating taking maths with taking 3 STEM subjects. Historically at least applicants with less than 3 STEM subjects have been extremely unlikely to be successful in applying (about 1 person per year I think on average got in without 3 STEM subjects at A-level). They had no preference whether you take bio/chem/physics or bio/chem/maths if applying to colleges that don't specify maths.

So applying without maths is not necessarily an issue. Applying with only two STEM subjects will make you very much less competitive at least based on historical trends and given medicine is extremely competitive and it literally does not matter which medical school you graduate from, I wouldn't consider the risk worth much of anything.

Just apply to other medical schools.

I guess that is the problem with medicine. It isn't so much that someone doesn't have the subjects that they have asked for it is more what the level of competition is of applicants that do have.

Hey, there are some colleges like Selywn that dont require two other science subjects, you have to just check their website

I think they mean you need 2 STEM subjects overall - to be competitive you would need 3. Not taking Maths shouldn't be an issue in that case
