Wallington County Grammar School as a girl

To any girls thinking of applying here. Please reconsider. There’s always a shot that it could be for you. But truly think, if they had the guts to follow the protocol of its neighbouring schools (eg. Wallington girls, Wilson’s, and Nonsuch) it would stay an all boys school. If it was not advertised as a mixed sixth form you guys would know you aren’t missing much. The girl to boy ratio is extremely rough, to the point where it should return back to an all boys school. I have spoken to girls who have enjoyed it here, and have made their peace here, but overall if you can leave when you join try it. To what matters- academics. Academically you are given little to no support, as externals are chosen heavily on their gcse grades. As expected as an alevel student, most of the work will be done on your own merit. But this sixth form does not really give extra support when it comes to that, so if that is the case, you would do well anywhere else also. In terms of academic trips and extracurricular opportunities, the school lacks both. They are not funded. However they use the idea of not having funding to its full excuse. What they spend money on is not for the benefit of their students. As a girl, it is definitely not the easiest of environments to join. It differs from person to person. But I’ll give you the statistic. Year 13- 14 girls. Year 12- approx 20 girls. Save yourself. Due to these low numbers there is little they can actually provide for you as a girl. Because there just isn’t the numbers. And it’s unlikely they will be since they only accept a small proportion of externals, of which a small percentage is girls. Academically save yourself, socially save yourself. It may be a place for you, but think carefully. You’ve had the stressful experience of doing your exams and getting the grades you did, so a massive well done for that. Everything will go well!! Good luck!!

At the core of everything, it really does depend on you. Though just to warn, like most places, gossip is huge. Even bigger if you’re a girl here. So the answer is, it depends from person to person.

The teachers aren’t the worst- they can be a bit unserious and strict just like most schools. But for alot of stem subjects I wouldn’t say they offer much support at all. Yes uniform is very strict. Just white shirts and plain, dark bottoms.

In terms of frees- you get around 3-4 every two weeks as it runs on a week A week B basis. You can only leave if it is after lunch and your frees will last an hour. You cannot leave early if you have a free on Monday or Thursday. So yes roughly strict
