Lancaster uni accommodation

I firmed Lancaster a few days ago and still haven’t received an email to apply for accommodation. I’m concerned there may not be enough space in Grizedale as I know it’s a popular college and I was wondering if anyone knows how long it takes for the email to come through usually? Also if there are any good college alternatives to Grizedale that are still very social and fun

Hello!

That's so exciting you have firmed Lancaster we are very excited to have you! As you only accepted a few days ago it may take a few days or weeks for you to go through the system but you should receive this soon! If you haven't heard within a few weeks you can contact the accommodation team at this email address [email protected]
When you apply for accommodation you can put your first and second choice of college. When choosing your college you should consider which type of accommodation you would like. For example, Lonsdale and Cartmel are purely ensuite accommodation, County and Grizedale have townhouses as well as flats. All colleges have sports teams, bars and lots of college events!

Hope this helps,

Hello @anon9027,
Really excited to hear you've firmed Lancaster! As Lucy mentioned earlier, when you apply for accommodation you select a first and second choice of college. In terms of colleges that are similar to Grizedale, County college is the only other college to have townhouse style accommodation if this is something you were intrested in, and is known for being a social college. Alternatively, Pendle college is located next to Grizedale on campus, so could be a good option.
Hope this helps, and if you have anymore questions feel free to ask!

Hi @anon9027!

Congrats on your offer and it's fab to hear you've gone with Lancaster as your firm choice! As an add-on to what Lucy mentioned, accommodation applications usually get sent out in August to factor in the students who are waiting on their A-Level/other exam results. So don't be too worried if you don't see an email before then!

To share my own personal experience - I went with Pendle shared bathroom accommodation in my first year and I absolutely loved it! It was in a great spot on campus (just next to Grizedale like Jasmine said!) where it felt close-by to my lectures but still far enough that it felt like I could properly 'go home' at the end of the day. Our college JCR ran pub quizzes, bingo nights (where you could win groceries like a 1kg bag of pasta - helps out on a student budget!), welfare craft events, and Pendle Live evenings where you can support student bands and musicians (they are actually all so good!!). Every college runs their own events so there's usually something for everyone and it's a great way to bond with flatmates especially during Welcome Week.

Pendle isn't stereotyped by people as being one of the most social colleges, but I had an amazing experience in my first year, made amazing friends with almost everyone in my building, and had loads of nights out and wholesome day trips. So don't worry if you don't get your top choice in college! A lot of the accommodation is very standardised and similar across colleges, and there will always be loads of places to socialise whether that's with your flat, in classes, or at one of the (many, many!) societies.
