How hard is crashing higher compsci?

This year going into S6 I’m crashing computer science. I don’t really have any experience coding except for the basic python I did in S3 and I’m a bit worried that I’ll struggle to keep up with the class. Does anyone have any experience doing computing as a crash higher?

If you're into computers then Higher Computing is probably the easiest subject to crash. Coding is not really a large part of the course, only used in the assignment. The majority of Computing is theory work which again if you're somewhat into computers you will find incredibly easy because all of the questions are 1-2 mark questions, sometimes 3-4. If you have no clue about anything computer related then obviously you will find it challenging but even then Higher Computing is pretty fun and not that difficult.

I agree with taskmgr1, it's really not too difficult and I found the step up from Nat 5 to Higher to probably be the easiest out of all the subjects I took this year.

I agree, computer science is easier to crash. I took N5 in S4 and sat higher this year in S6. I know for some people who crashed it, they did struggle with coding, but if you can pick it up and get the basics you should be fine. The assignment is also open book, so you will likely do most of the important algorithms during class throughout the year which you can use as basis for your assignment. There is a little bit of coding in the exam but its pretty simple. Theory isn't too difficult overall, you might just need to take a bit of extra time to practice/gain knowledge on areas, but that's kinda the same is it would be for any other subject.

Hii, I didn’t crash it but I personally found higher comp sci really difficult up until the end of the course 😭 Everyone has different experiences with it and no one in my year seemed to struggle with it as much (though I did end up with an A in the end). Being good at coding is definitely an advantage for the assignment - but then again it is open book + you only really need to know your standard algorithms for it and for the paper. My advice would be collect as many resources as you can throughout the year and focus your energy on the assignment - but that advice is coming from someone who knew that they’d really struggle with it so you might have a different experience. 6 months is plenty of time to get up to speed with python so hopefully that won’t be of too much concern. SQL is dead easy and the whole databases bit of the paper is a breeze - I’m fairly confident anyone could teach it to themselves within a week (with right resources ofc). Nothing is too difficult in systems and it’s all memorisation. The second I stopped treating it as a ‘problem solving’ subject and recognised that it was the same as any other (read the syllabus and memorise stuff), it became a lot easier. My experience with the course was super bumpy but it all worked out in the end - I’m sure it will be the same case for you. Good luck!

Just do a lot of past paper questions the exam is very predictable

higher computing is easy and it has very low topic density just do it daily and consistently do coding daily. watch youtube video and do the assignmnt paper as early as possible for consolidating knowlege before past paper
