Do I need Further maths for top CompSci Uni?

I'm Year 12 and it's too late to change to further maths aswell now but I am doing Maths, Computer science and Econ and was wondering about how likely I am on getting into a top uni. my gcses were 9988777777 and was wondering about some of the top unis. Do I have any chance at oxbridge or imperial?

Was considering if I do well on my TMUA assuming around 7.0 if I would be considered in those universities. My other choices would be KCL and UCL but im not sure how strict they are when it comes to requiring furthermaths.

For my current subjects I would be predicted A*A*A

The entrance requirements on the course page will tell you and often they do not. However, those courses you list are super competitive and many students even with FM don't get offers because so many apply. My advice is to apply to maybe two really competitive Unis but also have some good less competitive options there too. Go to lots of open days in the next term to get a feel for the courses

Not at all mate, I do the exact same A-Levels as you and my average GCSE GPA was lower and I've got 5/5 offers from top Russel Group unis
However I did not apply to Oxbridge or Imperial because I didn't do the TMUA - that exam is much harder than even A level Further maths, all my further maths friends did it and struggled, their scores weren't what they expected either save for a small handful that did well; that is what would be your downfall
You could definitely get into KCL but you would need to take a different exam, not the TMUA, specifically for UCL
Also my predicted grades were just slightly lower than yours but what really set me apart from other candidates was all my work experience and super curriculars I did and put into my personal statement - right now you should try and do as many of those as you can
I got my offers within the week I sent in my application just because of how different and good my personal statement was since I did lots of Computer Science related work experience and super curriculars which are really hard to find so most people just go with maths events/awards

You can get into almost all Unis for CS with those grades and subjects. That's also what I did. Yes, you won't be able to apply to a small handful of courses because of the lack of FM, but otherwise you'll be fine.

If you apply to Oxbridge or Imperial, your application to those unis will likely suffer for lack of having studied further maths. It is stated quite clearly on the Cambridge website that if your school offers Further Maths, you must take it in order to be considered, and essentially the same is true for Oxford and Imperial even if it is not an explicitly stated hard requirement (Ox and Imp may consider your application still, but you will most likely be rejected unless you do exceedingly well on the respective admissions tests). All other unis except those 3 should be fine with you not having taken further maths.

TLDR: No FM will be a disadvantage for an Oxbridge/Imperial application but should still apply anyway because you get 5 UCAS choices. No other universities really care about further maths.

Hi,

I'm currently in year 12 and I'm also looking to study computer science in university later on and I couldnt take further maths due to my grades. Is there a realistic chance that if I apply to the Computer Science and Philosphy course in Oxford or the Computer Science course in Imperial, I would get an offer or na?

Also, I am also looking for work experience related to computer science but I could not find any due, partly due to the application deadlines being passed as I didn't know but there arent that many in general. Could you maybe suggest where I could ifnd work experience as I want to build on my supercurricular activities for my personal statement?

Thanks.
