Math personal statement

I want to apply to Cambridge for maths, but would it matter if I base my ps around more applied maths content/supercurriculars. & also are there any clever ways I could link my passion to applied maths to problem solving/math competitions and etc

It wouldn't necessarily matter that much. I'd say, for most people doing A-Level, applied maths* is most of their experience of maths before they get to university. If there are aspects of pure maths that interest you, you can mention them but you don't have to.

Also, remark that the format of the personal statement is different this year, so it may be easier to include competitions and that as there will be different sections.

*I'm using the university usage of "applied maths", which is different to the way it's used at A-Level.

Thanks for your reply  But I was also thinking that would it be better if my PS had a common theme throughout the 3 questions? (mine is of course more focused on applied maths) so maybe I should let my teachers mention the competitions in my reference instead?

I'll be honest, I wouldn't worry too much about thematic consistency beyond 'highly academic mathematical personal statement'.

You could link them by saying, for example, practicing [supercurricular] helped me to win [medal in competition]; or I used the skills in [supercurricular] in the [competition], winning [medal]. Obviously make sure it makes sense and relates to your actual experiences.
