What you are doing is absolutely fine - I was replying to the poster who says 4 is not sensible.

I understand, I'm just wondering about how you can say that A*AA is not better than AAAA

I wasn't replying to that bit - he kept on posting about 3 being better than 4 - if you read my other replies it's clearer. I've now edited it a bit.

It's very common to do what you school is doing and you are still doing 3 in Year 13.

There would be more of an issue if you were doing 3 and did one early.

some unis, imperial for example, don’t count the a level that isn’t taken in the same sitting, for medicine anyway. so only the unis taken in y13 would count towards your application

I know I'm assuming it won't be included in any offers I get. It still helps with my application though (especially now I know its not a disadvantage!) by backing up my other predicted grades
The Cambridge Maths Faculty website has this exact question on their FAQs:

My school offers the full Mathematics A-level in Year 12, then Further Mathematics in Year 13. Will my A* in Maths A level in Year 12 count towards my offer? Will I need to take a fourth A level in Year 13?
A* in Mathematics in Y12 will be normally counted as part of the offer. Many Colleges will accept A* in Maths in Y12 followed by A*A in two more subjects, one of which must be Further Mathematics, in Y13. If you are not taking three A levels in Year 13, you will need to show evidence of being able to cope with the equivalent amount of workload, but this could mean taking two STEP papers alongside two A levels in Y13.
