English NEA- what to do?

Hi everybody!
I'm choosing texts for my A-level course to do for my NEA. We need to choose a fiction text that is of a high literary standard as well as a non-fiction text to compare it to.
Does anyone have any recommendations for any texts? I was thinking of choosing 1984 and exploring how women's rights and oppression has evolved over the years, but I'm unsure of what non-fiction texts would be good to compare it to, as I typically don't read anything in these genres in my free time.
Thanks!

Hi there!

the handmaid's tale is a very good choice in my opinion, if you don't already study it. As is a streetcar named desire, which has some aspects of exploring women's rights. I hope this helps! I did both at A-level in 2019 so I know these are good A-level quality texts. A girl in my class did 'the bell jar' and 'lolita' I believe.

Kind regards, Jenifer (Kingston rep).
