should i appeal my gcse art mark?

on thursday i recieved my provisional marks for my gcse art, and i do ocr. after comparing my mark with the grade boundaries from multiple years excluding covid, im typically 4-6 marks away below the grade 9 boundary, but 7-8 marks above the grade 8 boundary. Do i appeal my mark and get it remarked? if i do im at a risk of losing marks and im in the halfway zone of the boundaries so im not sure if it would be worth it or not? please let me know since i only have 2 more days left to appeal my mark.

First of all, amazing!! I could never score that highly! Secondly, it depends if you need it for college or not but I would not since you're at risk of losing marks. A friend of mine in the above year did that. She got an 8, maybe 11 away from a 9 and got it back and received a high 7. I wouldn't risk it as it is not the difference between a pass or fail. The boundaries may also be lower this year too so you still may get your 9. Whatever happens, best of luck!!

If it's 4-6 marks away I wouldn't bother tbh. Usually if you appeal you'd only end up with 1 or 2 extra marks at most anyway (and you might even lose marks) so it's unlikely you'd get moved up to a 9.

Hi there,

firstly, those are amazing grades! Secondly, I would talk to your teachers about whether they believe you were awarded the correct marks. If they think you have a strong case to appeal, then I would go for it. If not, then it may be best not to especially if you run the risk of going down in grade. When I did my GCSEs, in 2018, we only appealed if we were 1-2 marks away. Of course this may have changed, but I would strongly advise talking to a friendly, competent teacher first about whether you have a good shot as a successful appeal.

Hope this helps!

Kind regards, Jenifer (Kingston rep)
