What is the equivalent of a solicitor training contract for barristers?

I know non-law graduates looking to be solicitors can get funding for a law course via their training contracts with whichever firm. What would be the equivalent for a barrister, or would someone without the finances and without a scholarship have to self-fund being taking the bar course?

You can get a postgraduate loan if you do the Bar course combined with an LLM

Hi there,

There are a few ways you can fund a Bar Training Course (BTC) from my own experience when navigating the SQE course provider market.

The main one would be obtaining a postgraduate university loan for a LLM, this typically covers most of the course’s cost, but definitely research this. Further, some Inns of Courts may provide a scholarship, but these can be extremely competitive (this would be the closest to funding from a training contract provider).

Lastly, some universities, such as BPP University provide their own scholarships, I received one myself as I was eligible, so definitely check this out as it helps significantly.

I hope this has helped!
