English Literature Paper 1 2025

Just got home from my first English Literature exam… it was amazing! The questions were:

Macbeth - ‘How does Shakespeare present Macbeth as an ambitious character?’

A Christmas Carol - ‘How does Dickens present kindness in A Christmas Carol?’

Honestly, I couldn’t have asked for anything better. Wish you all the best if you’ve done it today as well. Fingers crossed for good questions on Paper 2!

Yeah, I honestly celebrated when I saw the questions but the extracts were kinda annoying because there were none of my key quotations, so some of my analysis is lacking or wrong altogether in my paragraphs about the extract ☹️
The rest of the essays went really well though, so I'm hoping it can even out somewhat 🤞

Same here, for me the Jekyll and Hyde extract was very difficult.

Ugh yes, they were stressful. I used ‘I have no spur to prick…’ using horse riding imagery to show how Macbeth isn’t in control of his ambition and ‘Tell me if Tiny Tim will live’ to show Scrooge’s newfound empathy, even for somebody he doesn’t know. Hopefully it’s all good

Yeah I misinterpreted that Macbeth quote actually which is so annoying. Christmas Carol I used the spirit mirroring Scrooge's words and Bob's toast to Scrooge as the founder of the feast
