Postgraduate loan

I previously did a masters before the postgraduate loans in 2015, I used future finance. However, during this period I was in an emotionally abusive relationship. Whilst, 2 chronic health conditions that significantly affected my quality of life and ability to work.

The illnesses and the emotionally abusive relationship prevented me from being able to use the masters. I have only recently received proper treatment for my disorders and can partake on a university course. I am currently applying for Student finance and need to know what I need to include or if this is an option using the compelling reasons section. As I have previously done a masters , I need to present my case but need advise . Any help anyone can offer would be really appreciated.

Hi Nikita. I am sorry to hear about what happened during your studies. Just to confirm, did you gain a Postgraduate qualification from your self funded studies? What course did you study? Thanks, David

Thank you for confirming that. Can you please also confirm the full name of the course you are now looking to study? Thanks, David

Hi there, access to a second Postgraduate Master’s loan may be available where students do not complete the first course due to compelling personal reasons (CPR). If however you have completed the course, this may not apply for yourself. However you are still free to submit the CPR evidence and where applicable, we recommend evidence:

is signed and dated

confirms the reason why the student could not continue with their studies; and

when this took place.

We can accept photocopies of the following:

Medical evidence from a GP on headed paper.

Letter from HEP on headed paper.

Letter from Social Services on headed paper.

Letter from clergy or professional person on headed paper.

Death Certificate and/or a Birth Certificate.

The above list is not exhaustive and any evidence that can support your claim should be sent to us for consideration. In some circumstances one piece of evidence may not be sufficient, therefore we would recommend that you send as much as possible. Thanks, Stephen.

Thank you for your help, i did complete the course but did so while having depressiom and 2 severe health issues, as well as emotional abuse. I completed it before the 2017 postgraduate funding came into effect. I have a letter from the doctors about this period of time and how it affected my abilities during this course period.

I am currently appealing the decision made my student finance about receiving funding from student finance for a postgraduate loan, any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Nikita,

Just to confirm, did you gain a Masters from your previous study? Or, did you not receive any qualifications from it?

Thanks, Graeme
