Mr Bruff's comment section is an absolute gold mine. People post crazy interpretations there that are honestly not mainstream. Examiners love people who think originally, they're marking hundreds of papers; they don't wanna see the same thing a hundred times. I just look for out of the ordinary, but still sensible, interpretations for poems, and a lot of them. I lost my poetry anthology like 2 weeks before the exam and i got a new one and just filled it with stuff from the comment sections, so it really helped

I would second what OP said, I got 152/160 on mine last year, with 100% on the power and conflict anthology. Mr Bruff is a gold mine. Try not to be too original though that you start to waffle about something that you haven't thought over, go in with ideas for each poem for each theme and stick with them. Also the way in which you articulate your ideas, as well as the content, is important to make the examiner think your both confident in and able to aptly describe your ideas.

The funniest part of my exam journey was getting like full marks on pride and prejudice without ever reading the book, just because i was used to properly analysing thanks to power and conflict (ofc i did have some context from my teacher's lessons too).

Yeah I had the same with a Christmas Carol, 100% despite only reading the first two staves.

For the poetry section, did you learn quotes for every single poem, or just some? Thank you!

No I got a grade 6 on my mock, was pleasantly surprised when I got the highest in my year. I didn't think I would at first, (having messed up time myself after reading the timings for the A Level exam at the same time), but due to the nature of Eng Lit you can never really tell. Keep yourself going and motivated and I am sure you will get the grades you have worked for!

If I'm being honest, no, because all year I'd received 5s and 6s in class tests. For Inspector Calls, I only wrote 1 paragraph so I was so sure I did awful, but I ended up being pleasantly surprised. So, if you're worried, I wouldn't focus on it too much as there's not much you can do anymore.

Structure chronologically based on the novel/play/poem 100% of the time. Utilise the typical Point Example Explanation and Analysis structure and ensure you are constantly backing up your analysis with more quotes, utilise quotes they get you alot of marks. An insubstantial mistake I made (I still got 152/160 but I did too much for it) is don't worry about too many niche/unique concepts and ideas derived from the text. Include a couple to gauge interest but focus more on the core ideas. Don't waste time and forget about structure because you wanted to talk about how something very vaguely hints of something else, focus on the strong denotations and ideas.

I was in the same position lol i haaaaaated pride and prejudice and i never read the book. this may or may not help but i'd say if you don't like the books then look at key quotation instead of reading the whole thing, that's what i did. like 2 days before the exam i just crammed a bunch of quotes that i liked the sound of bc i couldn't bring myself to read the book. look in the comment sections of yt videos bc ppl give super good quotes there with amazing interpretations that honestly havent been seen before.
