Quiet study spaces on campus (Surrey)

Hey everyone,

I’m starting at Surrey this September and I’m trying to scope out some quiet study spaces on campus. I’ve already looked into the library and some of the cafes listed on the uni website, but I’m really hoping to find somewhere a bit smaller and less busy.

Ideally, I’m looking for a study room or space that fits around 5 people max something calm and low-stimulation as I have ADHD and focus better in quieter environments. I also don’t want to be stuck studying only in my accommodation.

Does anyone know of any quiet, tucked-away study spots or small bookable rooms on campus? I’ve already reached out to the university (still waiting on a reply), and I’ve already been told I’ll have access to support from their neurodiversity team, but I wanted to hear from actual students who know what it’s really like day to day.

Would really appreciate any tips!

Hey @aesuukk,

Congratulations on accepting your offer to study at Surrey!

Just in case you missed it, here’s a link to study spaces on campus: https://my.surrey.ac.uk/study/space. From my experience, MySurrey Dot and your faculty common rooms can be quieter because not everyone knows about them! MySurreyHive is also a great option, open 24/7 with kitchen facilities.

We also have bookable group study rooms inside the library, which can be useful for coursework in addition to silent study spaces and individual study. If noise levels are too high, there’s an anonymous number you can text to raise your concern.

It may also be worth raising this with the D&N team. I’m sure they can also make suitable recommendations on places to study. They certainly helped me settle in, especially with the early induction which gave us the opportunity to move in early, avoiding the crowds at registration.

I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any questions. I’m happy to answer questions from my own experiences with D&N as well.

All the best,
Dan

Hiya, I'm going into my second year so I know about quiet spaces!

With the library, some of the higher up floors have bookable rooms iirc, as well as being silent! This means no talking is allowed whatsoever, and they also have little cards on tables where you can text or call someone if people are being too noisy (on all levels of the library aside from the one that is open to the general public, which also happens to be the noisiest place).

The nest also tends to be quite quiet, although it really depends on when you go in. I recommend going to the different spots and just explore and take note of when it is busy and quiet

I hope you have fun!
